Fire Department Uses Village Education Center Building for Training

While the Village Education Center building sits and waits for all the "behind-the-scenes" work to get done, it is still fulfilling its original purpose by being a place for teaching and learning.  Starting on Aug 18th, the Putnam Township Fire Department will be using it for Advanced Rescue Training classes.  The Library Board was delighted to grant them permission to do this and are happy that many of the parts of the building that cannot be reused in the new library are still able to help out the community one last time.  Below are some photos that were snapped by eager Library staff as they watched the first training exercises take place.

Library Sells Bonds to Fund Renovation Project

Why are these people smiling?

They are smiling because they have just witnessed the successful sale of bonds by the library to fund the new library building project.  Originally intending to seek funding from the USDA, the library board discovered that they were able to raise the money in the commercial market.  By law, the USDA only funds projects as the "Lender of last resort" - that is, for projects that cannot find funding in commercial markets. The project can now go forward with site plan approval hoped for in September.

Variance Approved!

Thanks to everyone who attended the ZBA and Village Council meetings last Monday and especially to the members of both of these groups. The Library was granted both the variance and waivers we had requested to enable us to provide additional parking on our new site.  The next steps are site approval and sale of our bonds.  Meanwhile, Chief Amburgey and the fire department have the go-ahead to use the old building for training purposes.
